![]() ![]() Personally, I feel Sketch is an underrated video game protagonist as he's a geek but he's not the conventional kind. Though you can say now like most geeks today which is cool because I wear those kinds of outfits myself, and what I like about those outfits are a way of saying I don't care what anyone things I just want to be me, at least that's what I think. ![]() Like how he's dressed like a Grunge rocker which makes sense as in the 90's grunge rock was a big thing. Like the character animation from all the enemies down to the main character ironically and uninspiringly named Sketch. Anyway, really like the premise of this comic book world you're in, as it's sort of a colorful smoothie mix of the post-apocalyptic and fantasy genre which is cool as it's something I don't see much of. The graphical presentation is very good, really like how well detailed the backgrounds are this really looks and feels like a comic book series that could've existed. Though why the heck afterward the supervillain doesn't just start takeover of the real world right then and there is the one big inconsistency with the plot but oh well if the super villain didn't try gunning for you there would be no game. The game was no doubt ahead of its time, I really love the concept like in that movie you have a comic book villain come to life trying to get in and take over the real world and throws you into the comic book world to kill you by art illustration. Also, the game kind of predates the "Viewful Joe 1 and 2" video games also under the radar gems and stories for another time along with any other games that tried breaking the fourth wall and were meta. In a way this game reminds me a little of the film "Cool World" only this game is better than that movie (ok, the film was decent but could have been better). The game came out during the twilight years for the system and not a moment too soon as even the comic book culture in the 90's was rapidly on the rise, so it made sense for this game to come, and it was the last good gems the system had to offer. I'm a comic book fan and this game was a surprise because for one thing it's not a comic book video game adaptation, but that it's an original game based on comic this really blew me away because in this game you get to be the hero yourself. The game was a hit, however like even some of the best-selling comic book franchises as time went on it's become forgotten. So get ready to blast off in a rocket fuelled Starfield performance preview. This is another under the radar gem, well not quite this game wasn't entirely overlooked despite coming during the twilight years of the system. We also compare the improvements over the previous showing, enhancements within the engine, and much more. The biggest question after the show(s) was: why is it 30fps on Xbox Series X and Series S and not 60fps? In this IGN Performance preview, we dive into the details shared by the team, the revealed PC minimum and recommended specifications, and how the Creation Engine 2 works, comparing the previous games to gauge some of the potential reasons why the team might have chosen 30fps. With Starfield being the center of the Xbox 2023 Showcase last week, Bethesda gave us a deep dive into one of the biggest games this generation. “Space Channel 5, a comedy/dance adaptation of the cult-classic 1999 dance game, will tell the story of a hapless fast-food worker who is recruited by a freedom reporter from the future to save the world from aliens using the one thing that unites all people on the planet: our love of silly viral dances.” Space Channel 5 was released in 2002 on Dreamcast and followed reporter Ulala who worked for the titular news channel as she reports on the events of an alien invasion while also trying to fight off the invaders herself… all through the medium of dance. I practically wore out the game’s gnarly soundtrack - a free CD recorded by Howard Drossin as the real-life version of the in-game comic book creator’s band. Growing up in the 90s with a passion for comic books, Comix Zone was one of my favorite games. “Comix Zone, an adaptation of the cult console game that has been so influential to so many over the years, follows a jaded comic book creator and a young, queer writer of color who, when sucked into the final issue of his popular series, must put aside their differences to stop a dangerous supervillain from sowing complete destruction - and in the process wittily explore the ever-evolving power of storytelling itself.” The upcoming film follows a similar thread. Comix Zone was a cult classic on the SEGA Genesis - a side-scrolling adventure starring comic book artist Sketch Turner who is pulled into his own unfinished comic book by a villain he created. ![]()
